Using HBG3 GPS when the mount has its own built-in GPS?Question: When using an HBG3 GPS, does one need to disconnect the built-in GPS unit of the mount?Answer: Normally yes, because the Celestron hand-controller will attempt to talk to "GPS", and both units will respond and confuse things. But if NOT using a Celestron hand-controller, and thus instead using the HBG3 to connect with SkyPortal, SkySafari, and/or CPWI, the HBG3 firmware will intercept and respond to GPS requests directly, instead of passing the requests to the built-in GPS unit of the mount. So no conflict, and the built-in GPS of the mount can remain connected. If using an HBG3-Relay instead of the regular HBG3, one can plug the Celestron hand-controller into either of the Relay ports, and the HBG3-Relay will intercept and respond to GPS requests directly, instead of forwarding them to the mount. So no conflict, and the built-in GPS of the mount can remain connected. There is also a setting in the HBG3 to not use its own GPS, if needed: set gps.disable 1 | ![]() |
